This is your invitation to be part of something life-changing.
We believe that homes are healing — but it’s people who make that healing possible. Our charity supports people across the North East who are overcoming homelessness, trauma, addiction, or isolation.
And we can’t do it without you. Whether you have a few hours a week, professional skills to offer, or just a heart for helping others — there’s a place for you here.

Why volunteer with us?
-
Because you care.
-
Because your life experience matters.
-
Because your time can change someone’s future.
Our volunteers are often the first friendly face a resident sees. The reassuring voice on the phone. The person who helps sort through paperwork when it feels too much. Or the one who quietly helps build bridges between us, our tenants, and the systems that support them.
Volunteering with us isn’t always easy — but it is always meaningful.
Who we’re looking for.
We welcome volunteers from all backgrounds, cultures, and experiences — including those with lived experience of:
-
Homelessness or social exclusion
-
Recovery from addiction
-
Mental or physical health conditions
-
The care system or foster care
-
Military service or veteran life
-
Housing, welfare, or support work
-
Or simply… compassion and a willingness to help
You don’t need a qualification. Just integrity, reliability, empathy, and the ability to keep private things confidential.

Volunteer roles we offer.
We have flexible, meaningful roles in the following areas:
Support Call Volunteers
Make scheduled welfare check-ins with tenants — a chat, a nudge, a reminder, or a kind voice that helps someone stay on track. You’ll be trained in safeguarding, boundaries, and how to escalate concerns if needed.
Admin & Referral Support
Help us compile case summaries, risk information, and updates that we pass (with permission) to Local Authority housing teams and care coordinators. This role requires attention to detail and respect for confidentiality. Ideal for people with basic admin or data entry skills.
Peer Connectors
If you’ve been through it — homelessness, addiction, prison, foster care — then your voice is one someone else desperately needs to hear. We offer peer mentor-style roles that match lived experience with empathy and encouragement. We’ll train and support you every step of the way.
Veterans & Older Persons Companions
Many of our tenants are ex-forces or ageing adults who feel forgotten. A regular phone call, a visit, or a walk to the shop can make all the difference. You’ll be matched based on personality and needs — and given full guidance.
Care Leaver Champions
Many care-experienced young adults face overwhelming loneliness when they move into their first home. Volunteers can support them with practical tips, emotional encouragement, and a bit of structure as they transition into independence.

A national vision.
Teesside, Leeds, Bristol, and Beyond...
As we grow our model across the UK, we want a network of community-powered volunteers who can grow with us — supporting more people in more places, without losing that local, human touch.
Whether you live in Teesside, Leeds, Bristol, or beyond — if this speaks to you, get in touch. Let’s build it together.

A note on confidentiality & trust.
Some roles involve handling sensitive personal information — about health, risk, housing status, or wellbeing. We take this responsibility very seriously. That’s why we provide:
-
Clear policies
-
Ongoing support
-
Regular check-ins and supervision
-
A culture of kindness and accountability
You’ll never be expected to manage risk alone. We work as a team — and every voice matters.
There’s no one “type” — our best volunteers include:
-
Retired professionals
-
Students on placement
-
Parents returning to work
-
People who’ve overcome hardship
-
People building confidence after long-term illness
-
Ex-forces or blue-light workers looking to give back
-
People who just want to use their spare time for something good
If you’ve got heart, patience, and curiosity — we’d love to meet you.

What makes a great volunteer?

Your time, your story, your impact.
“I thought I was just volunteering to help. But really, I found purpose, connection, and pride again.”
– Ben, Volunteer since 2022
